Crossroads Care Cheshire East, Manchester & Tameside is a scheme member of the Crossroads Care Association, a national charity which serves to act as an umbrella organisation supporting all Crossroads schemes in England and Wales. The schemes it supports deliver a range of services that are designed to provide sensitive and understanding support to carers of all ages.
When Crossroads began in 1974 it supported just 28 families. Today there are 140 member schemes which provide more than 4.6 million hours of care to around 35,000 carers.
The Association has two main roles:
Supporting member schemes
The Crossroads Care Association aims to effectively support the network of Crossroads schemes so that they are able to develop and deliver services to carers and their families. This support includes advice and guidance on service issues, policies and procedures, insurance, training and quality assurance.
Influencing Policy and raising awareness of carers issues
Crossroads Care Association also endeavours to make links with other organisations and the government in order to strengthen support for carers. They aim to broker national partnerships that result in more service delivery at a local level and to contribute to the development of legislation and policy which impacts on Crossroads and on carers.
The Crossroads Care Association has been working with the Department of Health to facilitate consultation with carers as part of the review of the 1999 Carers Strategy.
