Volunteer Newsletter 2010

Volunteers help at the summer fair
Why volunteer?
Volunteering makes a huge difference to the charity you have chosen to help and can also be a positive and enjoyable experience for you. If you are the sort of person who enjoys a new challenge and who likes meeting new people we would love to hear from you.
Crossroads Care Cheshire East depends on volunteers to raise much needed funds and to help us deliver some of the services carers rely on. In particular we are looking for volunteers who would like to:
- Become mentors in our Young Carers Project, we need enthusiastic people to get involved with the younger groups.
- Distribute and monitor collection boxes, it only takes a moment to place a collection box but it means extra funds to support carers
- Join a Fundraising Support Group, meet like minded people and have fun supporting a worthwhile local charity.
Thoughts from our volunteers
Pat Wray – Office Volunteer, “I have worked as a volunteer at Crossroads for the last 4 years, mostly helping in the office doing general administration. Having been involved in admin prior to retiring, it has been interesting to keep up my skills and learn new systems and to be involved in such an interesting and worthy cause. It never ceases to amaze me the different areas covered by Crossroads and the work they do – it seems that Crossroads thinks of a new way to support carers every year. No standing still at Crossroads.
The team are all very friendly and welcoming and, from my point of view, it is nice to be back in a work environment. I have been allotted some specific tasks which I now do on a regular basis and at other times I help with anything from answering the phone to helping with mail shots. I try to fit in where I can and find the input very rewarding – it’s lovely to feel useful.”
Andy Roney – Young Carers Project Volunteer, “I first became aware of the Young Carers Group when my wife was ill. During the last 6 months of her life my son, Adam, attended the group regularly and really benefitted from the support it provided. After my wife's death I wanted to give something back and last year I became a volunteer with the group. One of the first assignments was to accompany the group on their annual trip to Raasay where I threw myself into the activities along with the young carers.
I am currently doing a teaching assistants course and enjoy working with children of all ages. I find helping out with the group helps me to move on with my life and I really enjoy getting out and mixing with the young people.”
